The Ritchey Project

I sold this bike but will leave the listing up for historical value. I will not divulge the new owner's identity. Enjoy the history! I bought this frame and fork from Palo Alto Cycles in 1978 or 1979. It's been in my possession ever since. I built the bike out myself using mostly Campagnolo Nuovo Record mechanicals and a mixture of other higher end parts at the time. The Dark Caramel Imron paint is original and the frame material is steel with the trademark Ritchey hand brazed and hand filed lug filets. I've researched the frame and from what I found, it was built by Tom Ritchey himself. When the frame arrived back in the day, a friend of mine who owned a well known and successful local bike shop stopped by to check out the "big dollar" frame - $350+ for a frame alone was big dough in those days. He looked the frame over and snidely cracked "that looks like a $50 Schwinn frame". Fast forward 40+ years and Tom Ritchey forged a world renown cycle brand in his name and these legacy frames are iconic for their beautiful hand finished filleted brazing, functionality and elegant simplicity.
